DIMAPUR — The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) was launched and observed across Niuland, Meluri, and Tseminyu on Wednesday to create awareness on the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote drug-free communities.
Niuland: In Niuland, Deputy Commissioner (DC) TL Kiusumong Tikhir launched the campaign at the DC’s office complex, according to a DIPR report.
Addressing the gathering, Kiusumong stated that drug abuse threatens society’s health and future and called for collective responsibility from parents, teachers, students, and community leaders to build drug-free communities.
The district campaign will include awareness talks, pledge events, student competitions, outreach programmes, and social media drives. The launch was attended by District Programme Officer TY Peter Yanthan, Extra Assistant Commissioner Neisiezo Theunuo, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) staff, and other administration officials.
Meluri: The office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Meluri, organised an awareness programme on "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan" at the Meluri Village Council Hall.

DC Meluri Phuleshe K Yepthomi stressed the need for collective efforts to combat drug abuse, stating that human resources are the nation's most valuable asset and that substance abuse weakens individual health and potential. He urged parents and community leaders to work together to guide the youth toward healthy lives.
SDPO Meluri Dr. T Desela Sangtam, speaking on "Drug abuse and crime", pointed out that substance abuse often leads youth into unlawful activities.
She warned that individuals involved in drug-related offences would face legal action.
Medical Officer of Community Health Centre Meluri Dr. Ngailong L Phom spoke on "Tobacco use abuse", highlighting its harmful health effects and urging the youth to avoid tobacco.
Tseminyu: In Tseminyu, the district administration and Social Welfare department organised Nasha Mukti Bharat Saptah at the Office of the District Programme Officer.
DC Tseminyu Japheth Woch spoke on the district's action plan and called for a collective effort to achieve a drug-free district. The participants also took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge.
