DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, Nagaland University, has been conducting the month-long "Khet Bachao Abhiyaan" campaign across several villages in the Zunheboto district.
The campaign is part of a nationwide initiative launched by the Government of India which is being implemented from June 1 to the 30th with the objective of promoting balanced and judicious use of fertilisers, improving soil health, encouraging sustainable nutrient management practices, and accelerating the adoption of natural farming across the country.
An update mentioned that during the campaign, the KVK teams were able to educate the farming community on the importance of soil health management, integrated nutrient management, water conservation, organic and natural farming practices, and climate-resilient agricultural technologies. Special focus is being laid on reducing the indiscriminate use of chemical fertiliser inputs and promoting environmentally sustainable farming systems suited to the agro-climatic conditions of the district.
To date, KVK, Nagaland University, has covered 16 villages, including the sarpanch sammelan, field demonstrations at villages as well as at the KVK farm; and the distribution of fruit and plant saplings, bio-fertilisers and bio-pesticides. More than 1,800 farmers have been covered through this campaign so far.
