DIMAPUR — A 10-day awareness campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) got underway in Shamator on Tuesday, spearheaded by the Shamator district administration and Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), Shamator, in collaboration with the F.R.E.E. Riders Club Shamator.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chairman of NCORD Shamator, Arikumba, as the special guest, who flagged off the awareness bike rally.
Addressing the gathering, the DC highlighted the objectives of the NMBA and called for sustained efforts to combat drug abuse and build a healthier society. He spoke on the dangers of substance abuse and urged citizens, particularly the youth, to actively contribute towards creating a drug-free district and nation.
Delivering the keynote address, SDO (Civil) Shamator, Athrong, highlighted the activities undertaken under NCORD and NMBA over the years and outlined the awareness programmes planned for the 2026 campaign. He highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and community participation in addressing substance abuse.

Following the flag-off, members of the F.R.E.E. Riders Club and district administration officials visited various schools in Shamator to share awareness messages on the ill effects of drug abuse, informed decision-making, and healthy lifestyles.
The team encouraged students to become ambassadors of a drug-free society within their schools and communities.
