DIMAPUR — Nagaland joined the nationwide rollout of the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 on Tuesday, with Governor Nand Kishore Yadav participating in the exercise at Lok Bhavan and calling on citizens across the state to take part in the national enumeration process.
Participating in the self-enumeration process at Lok Bhavan, the governor said Nagaland has joined the rest of the country in undertaking Census 2027 under the theme, “My Census, My Development”.
He noted that, for the first time, citizens can enumerate their households online during the self-enumeration period from June 16 to the 30th, marking a shift towards a more citizen-centric and digitally enabled Census process.
According to the governor, Census 2027 is being conducted in a fully digital mode, making the exercise more efficient, inclusive and accessible.
He said the Census would provide vital data for development planning and help ensure that government schemes and services reach all sections of society as the country moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The information collected during the exercise, he said, would support policy decisions in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and social welfare.

The governor also acknowledged the services of more than 6,100 Census officials deployed across Nagaland and urged them to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, professionalism and integrity.
Calling for wider public participation, he appealed to tribal hohos, community organisations, village councils, colony authorities and elders to extend their support to ensure the success of the Census exercise.
“The Census is not merely a count of people; it is a foundation for future planning and development,” Yadav said, urging citizens to participate in the self-enumeration process and cooperate with Census officials to ensure that every household and every individual is counted.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also urged people to participate in the self-enumeration exercise.
In a post on X, Rio said accurate Census data is essential for informed planning, effective governance and better policy outcomes for future generations. He also encouraged citizens to register, participate and motivate others to do the same as the self-enumeration phase commenced on Tuesday.
