NSS Nagaland University and Lions Club Kohima plant 200 saplings during a tree plantation drive in Kohima.

DIMAPUR — The National Service Scheme (NSS), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, in collaboration with the Lions Club Kohima, organised a tree plantation drive within the university campus on October 2 as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign.
The programme was conducted on the theme “Ek ped maa ke naam”, focusing on environmental conservation and responsible tree plantation.
Pro Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, N Venuh attended the programme as the special guest. Addressing the gathering, Venuh pointed out the importance of planting trees to protect the environment and contribute towards a greener and healthier future.
He also stressed the need for careful selection of tree species, encouraging the plantation of trees that enrich and add value to the soil rather than those that may adversely affect soil quality.

President of Lions Club Kohima Talitemsu Jamir expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it was the first collaboration between Nagaland University and Lions Club Kohima. He highlighted the key objectives of the club, including providing assistance during natural disasters, protecting the environment, promoting good citizenship, and supporting community welfare, while expressing interest in strengthening future collaborations with the university.
Secretary of Lions Club Kohima Max Menuse-O shared his personal experience from his early days as an NSS volunteer and encouraged students to channel their energy and enthusiasm towards socially beneficial activities. He highlighted the value of community service and urged students to actively participate in environmental and societal initiatives.
Following the formal programme, the special guest, Lions Club representatives, programme officers, volunteers, and students participated in the tree plantation activity within the campus. Lions Club Kohima provided 200 tree saplings for the plantation drive.
