Nagaland has registered 5,304 small and micro fisheries enterprises supported under the PM-MKSSY scheme.
DIMAPUR — Nagaland has recorded 5,304 small and micro fisheries enterprises supported under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY), according to state-wise data released by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
The figures, released on August 11, are part of a total of 20,09,341 small and micro fisheries enterprises supported across the country for the formalisation of the fisheries and aquaculture sector, facilitation of institutional credit, strengthening of cooperatives, and promotion of aquaculture insurance.
Among the northeastern states, Assam recorded the highest number with 1,09,494 enterprises, followed by Tripura with 94,791 and Manipur with 9,673.
Meghalaya recorded 8,794, Nagaland 5,304, Arunachal Pradesh 3,579, Mizoram 3,521, and Sikkim recorded 1,598 enterprises.
The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, has been implementing the PM-MKSSY, a central sector sub-scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), for four years from 2023-24 to 2026-27 with an estimated outlay of INR 6,000 crore.
The National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP), launched under PM-MKSSY, aims to formalise the unorganised fisheries sector, facilitate access to institutional credit, promote aquaculture insurance, and improve fisheries value-chain efficiency.

Under the PM-MKSSY scheme, aquaculture farmers are provided a one-time incentive covering 40% of the insurance premium, subject to a maximum of INR 25,000 per hectare or INR 1 lakh per farmer for up to four hectares. SC, ST, and women beneficiaries are eligible for an additional 10% incentive.
The scheme also provides performance grants to improve fisheries value chains and establish supply chains for safe fish products. Microenterprises can receive up to 25% of the total investment or INR 35 lakh, whichever is lower, while SC, ST, and women-owned microenterprises are eligible for up to 35% of the investment or INR 45 lakh.
As of August 6, 2026, around 35.92 lakh fishers, fish farmers, and other fisheries stakeholders have registered on the NFDP. A total of 3,829 primary fisheries cooperatives have been approved for strengthening at a cost of INR 72.75 crore.
Aquaculture insurance policies for 2,294 hectares have been covered, against which 127 beneficiaries covering 321.74 hectares have availed a one-time incentive of INR 40.03 lakh.
Under the credit module, banks have sanctioned 535 loans amounting to INR 28.04 crore, while 180 beneficiaries have availed the Success Fee benefit.
Meanwhile, 84 applications have been approved under the performance grant, with eligible assistance amounting to INR 20.55 crore. Of this, INR 4.33 crore has been released to 21 beneficiaries.
The PM-MKSSY also provides employment-related incentives of INR 10,000 per year for the creation and maintenance of jobs for men and INR 15,000 for women, subject to a ceiling of 50% of the total eligible grant.
