NSDMA forecasts intensified rainfall across Nagaland from August 3, warning of landslides, flooding and thunderstorms in vulnerable districts
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast a fresh spell of widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the state from August 2 to 5, warning of possible flooding, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
According to the latest district-wise weather outlook issued by the NSDMA, weather activity is expected to intensify from August 3, with several districts likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall, while Longleng and Tseminyu could receive moderate to heavy rain during the forecast period.
On August 2, most districts, including Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Meluri, Niuland and Peren, are expected to receive light rain at a few places.
Longleng may witness moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall, while Phek is likely to experience localised thunderstorms and lightning.
The weather is expected to become more active on August 3, with Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Phek likely to receive light to moderate rain at scattered places. Kohima, Longleng, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha may experience localised thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall.

NSDMA directs all district relief operations through DDMAs
On August 4, localised thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall are likely over Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Peren, Shamator and Wokha, while Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu and Tuensang are expected to receive light to moderate rain at scattered places.
By August 5, scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecast across most parts of the state, with Tseminyu likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at a few places. Mon and Zunheboto are not under any active weather warning.
In view of the forecast, the NSDMA advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flooding, waterlogging, landslides, mudslides and falling rocks, particularly in vulnerable areas during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while travelling, while residents have been advised to monitor official weather forecasts and advisories through the NSDMA weather portal and the SAFER Nagaland mobile application.
