TUD welcomes ST, PRC relief for Rongmeis
DIMAPUR — The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) has welcomed the Government of Nagaland's order regarding the grant of Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates and permanent resident certificates (PRC) to members of the Rongmei community covered under the 1313 enumerated list and their direct descendants. In a press release, the union expressed appreciation for the decision, stating that the matter had remained unresolved for a long time and had affected many eligible members of the Rongmei community. The union stated that Rongmei individuals who fulfil the prescribed criteria rightfully deserve to be accommodated and accorded the benefits provided under the government order. It described the decision as a positive step towards addressing a longstanding concern and expressed hope that its implementation would be carried out in a fair, transparent and orderly manner in accordance with the established guidelines.
DC Phek issues travel advisory
Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, has issued a traffic advisory in view of hill excavation works being carried out at Chainage 101+060 to 101+ (between Losatephe and Lanezho villages) under Package-V of the Kohima–Jessami Road project. As a precautionary measure to ensure public safety, the DC informed that vehicular movement along the affected stretch will be partially restricted for all types of vehicles for a period of five days, from June 10. According to the advisory, traffic movement will be regulated daily from 6 am to 6 pm during the restriction period.

EDTC lauds NSDMA drainage drive
The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has expressed appreciation to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) for successfully carrying out drainage clearance works across its jurisdiction. In a statement, the council said the initiative has significantly improved sanitation, reduced the risk of waterlogging, and contributed to a cleaner environment for residents. The EDTC also appealed to the public to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and proper sanitation by avoiding the disposal of garbage, plastics, and other waste materials into drains and drainage channels. The council stressed that public participation and responsible waste management are crucial for preserving the benefits of the drainage clearance drive and ensuring a healthy and hygienic environment. It further expressed hope for continued support from residents in keeping East Dimapur clean and upholding proper sanitation standards for the welfare of the community.
Phek enforces tobacco-free zones
Eight shops were penalised under Section 6(b) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, during an enforcement drive conducted around Phek town near educational institutions on June 6. According to an update, the enforcement squad for COTPA, 2003, comprising the district administration, police personnel and civil society organisations, including the Phek Area Mother's Association and the Phek Town Chakhesang Students' Union, carried out the drive. During the drive, eight shops were found violating Section 6(b) of COTPA, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products within a radius of 100 yards of any educational institution, and were penalised accordingly.
Zunheboto DDMA meet rescheduled
The Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Zunheboto, Sharam Raj, has informed that the first quarterly DDMA meeting and pre-monsoon preparedness meeting, originally scheduled for June 9, has been rescheduled. According to a circular issued by the Deputy Commissioner, the meeting will now be held on June 11at 11 am at the deputy commissioner's conference hall, Zunheboto. The circular, issued in continuation of an earlier notification dated May 30, 2026, directed all DDMA members to take note of the revised schedule and attend the meeting positively.
Shamator launches census training
A six-day intensive training programme for Census 2027 for the enumerators and supervisors commenced at the Shamator district headquarters on Monday. According to a DIPR report, the training, which will conclude on June 13, aims to equip the field workforce with the necessary skills and knowledge for the upcoming national census. Deputy Commissioner of Shamator, Arikumba, in his inaugural address, emphasised the critical importance of accurate data collection, noting that the census forms the bedrock for future developmental planning and policy-making. A total of 165 trainees, comprising 25 supervisors and 140 enumerators are participating in the week-long training.
