DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB), in association with The Nature Conservancy Centre (TNCC) and Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), organised a stakeholder consultation workshop for the revision of the Nagaland State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NSBSAP) at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, on Thursday.
The revision is aimed at aligning Nagaland’s biodiversity action plan with India’s updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), launched at CBD COP16, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), which comprises 23 global biodiversity targets.
Addressing the inaugural session, Vedpal Singh, PCCF & HoFF and special guest, stressed that the revision should not be treated as a mere documentation exercise.
He called for scientifically and research-backed actions grounded in field data and the ecological realities of Nagaland.
The workshop was chaired by Sidramappa M. Chalkapure, CCF & Member Secretary, NSBB, while Supongnukshi, APCCF, delivered the keynote address.

The consultation followed an earlier meeting held on September 23 with line departments and community-based organisations, according to a DIPR report.
Nagaland prepared its first NSBSAP in 2005, which was revised in May 2022 with 12 targets.
The current revision is being undertaken to reflect the updated national and global biodiversity frameworks.
Dr. Ishwar Narayanan, Executive Director, TNCC, and Sanjay Sharma, General Manager, FES, delivered brief addresses and reiterated their organisations’ continued support to Nagaland.
Technical sessions covering Targets 1-6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 23 were moderated by Dr. Sayan Banerjee, Sanjay Sharma, Yaranajit Deka and Sunpreet Kaur.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Savinuo Kikhi, RFO, I/c Chiephobozou Range and NSBB.
