Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio launches fellowship programme and NEDFi study highlighting opportunities in agriculture, tourism, creative economy and entrepreneurship
KOHIMA — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday launched the Chief Minister’s Fellowship Programme Nagaland (CMFPN) and a research report titled ‘Strategic Interventions for Endogenous Development’ at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex in Kohima.
The research study was undertaken in collaboration with the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi).
In a post on X, Rio described the two initiatives as closely connected to the future of Nagaland. He said that the NEDFi-TEDF study highlights Nagaland’s strengths and unrealised potential in niche agriculture and horticulture, tourism, the creative economy, sports, entrepreneurship and other emerging sectors.
According to him, the challenge was to translate this potential into enterprises, investment, exports and livelihoods.

Rio also welcomed the study’s emphasis on the creative economy, saying Nagaland was among the early states to recognise the creative sector as an area of economic opportunity and youth empowerment.
On the fellowship programme, he said it was an investment in people rather than infrastructure and aimed at building human resource capacity for Nagaland “not just for today but for decades ahead”.
He asserted that the programme should go beyond meetings, reports and certificates to provide fellows with genuine exposure and meaningful experiences.
Rio reiterated that Nagaland’s greatest resource was its people, particularly its young, talented, creative and ambitious population. He stressed the need to create an environment and opportunities for them to flourish and contribute to a productive, self-reliant and investment-ready Nagaland.
