KOHIMA — The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on Thursday declared the HSLC and HSSLC 2026 results, with Keleno Thorie securing the top position in the Arts stream of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination.
A student of Northfield Khikha Kohima, Keleno had earlier secured Rank 19 in the HSLC examination in 2024.
The youngest among four sisters, she is the daughter of Kuolhoulie Thorie and Khrieno of Kigwema village.
Speaking after the results, Keleno expressed gratitude, saying she had not expected to top the examination.

“I was surprised and thankful at the same time,” she said, crediting her parents and sisters for their constant support.
On her preparation, she shared that she preferred shorter study sessions with breaks rather than long hours.
She also focused on key points when dealing with difficult topics and did not follow a rigid timetable.
“I enjoy doing art in my free time, which helps me stay fresh and focused,” she said.
Keleno described maintaining focus as her biggest challenge but said that her previous HSLC experience helped her refine her study approach.
When asked about the influence of her elder sisters—who have also excelled academically—she said that their achievements were both motivating and challenging, but largely encouraging.
She credited their guidance as instrumental in her success.
Academic excellence runs in the family: her elder sister Keneino Thorie topped the HSLC examination in 2021, while Kesino Thorie secured Rank 9 in 2015 and Kethono Thorie achieved Rank 7 in 2019.
Keleno plans to pursue History honours and later prepare for the civil services.
“Arts was a natural choice for me,” she said, adding that she hopes to build a career in public service.
