DIMAPUR — With barely a day left for the declaration of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination results on April 24, the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified a revision in its ‘Management of Examinations (Eligibility of Students),’ particularly regarding eligibility criteria for pursuing the Science stream.
In a notification dated April 20, the board informed that, effective from the 2026–27 academic session, students opting for the Science stream must secure qualifying grades (A or B) in Mathematics in the Class 10 HSLC examination.
It stated that students who qualify in either Mathematics A or Mathematics B will now be eligible to pursue the Science stream in Class 11. The provision will also apply to migrating students.

The revised guidelines replace the earlier requirement that restricted eligibility to students from the Mathematics A category.
The board has directed all heads of institutions to ensure that students from a Mathematics B background undergo counselling prior to admission, given the rigorous nature of the Class 11 Mathematics curriculum.
It further stated that all admissions for the 2026–27 academic session onwards will be processed strictly in accordance with the revised provisions.
