KOHIMA — The Nagaland Government Teachers Association (NGTA) batch of 2010 and 2013 on Tuesday put its protest on hold following the intervention of the Nagaland Students’ Federation (NSF) and the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF), after four days of agitation outside the Directorate of School Education.
The teachers, who began their democratic protest on February 26, have been demanding shifting of their salary head from a centrally sponsored scheme to state non-plan budget. The agitation had entered its fourth day when the two apex student bodies met the protesting teachers and assured them that the matter would be pursued with the government. They also requested the teachers to return to their respective classrooms in the interest of students.

President of NGTA 2010 and 2013, Peihau, said the association held deliberations with the federations, who sought that the agitation be called off while assuring them of taking the matter forward. Following consultation with members and core committees, the association decided to suspend the protest.
He said the teachers have placed three key demands before the federations: inclusion of their salary under state non-plan; implementation with effect from April 2026; and written compliance from the authorities.

Meanwhile, NGTA Dimapur Unit President Alemkala clarified that the batch comprises regular appointees and not flagship programme appointees, and stated that from the time of their appointment, they have been drawing salary grade pay like other state employee cadres.
NSF president Mteisuding Heraang said the federations had been working on the issue since 2018 and would continue to pursue it with the government until the demand is met. He appealed to the teachers to sincerely resume their duties for the welfare of the students.

ENSF president Nuheymong Yimkhiung also urged the teachers to return to classrooms and allow the federations to take up the matter with the authorities. He assured that the federations would leave no stone unturned until justice is delivered.
It may be mentioned that on Monday, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, had termed the demand “impossible” for the department to implement, stating that it is the prerogative of the state government.
