Nagaland Excise department launches probe into alleged liquor sale at a Nagaland Super League event.

DIMAPUR — The Excise department has initiated a preliminary inquiry into allegations of alcohol sale during the Nagaland Super League (NSL) exhibition match.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Commissioner of Excise H Atokhe Aye said the department had taken note of the allegations and that further investigation was underway.
“A preliminary inquiry has been initiated, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the facts and determine if there is any violations of the law,” the department stated.

The clarification comes amid public attention surrounding the alleged liquor sale during the exhibition match, the ongoing excise constable recruitment process and a recent Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) seizure case.
On the excise constable recruitment process, the department stated that a few applicants had challenged certain aspects of the recruitment before the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
As the matter is presently sub judice, the department said it is awaiting the court's verdict.

The department also commented on the recent seizure of IMFL by the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO), appreciating the organisation for intercepting and handing over the seized liquor and the conveyance to Excise authorities.
According to the department, the seized items have been deposited in the departmental malkhana and the case remains under investigation.
It added that efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused.
Stating that it remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring transparency in its functioning, the department urged the public not to be swayed by unverified information.
It added that official updates would be communicated through appropriate channels as and when necessary.
