DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has expressed deep concern over the recruitment process for 46 constable posts under the Excise department, a matter that is currently under judicial consideration.
In a statement, the union noted that the recruitment process had earlier been adjudicated by the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court, where the single judge bench set aside the recruitment citing procedural irregularities and deviations from prescribed recruitment norms and rules.
As an organisation committed to transparency, meritocracy and equal opportunity for the youth of Nagaland, the DNSU asserted that the 46 vacant constable posts should be filled only through a fresh recruitment process conducted strictly in accordance with relevant service rules and established procedures.
The union also urged the government and the concerned authorities to undertake a comprehensive review and verification of appointments within the department to determine whether any backdoor appointments had been made.
It stated that if any irregular, unauthorised or unlawful appointments were identified, appropriate corrective measures should be initiated in accordance with the law and established procedures.

Further, the union recommended that any vacancies arising from the identification and removal of such irregular appointments be consolidated with the existing 46 vacant posts and advertised through a single, transparent and competitive recruitment process.
According to the union, such a move would ensure that all eligible candidates are provided an equal opportunity to compete on merit.
The DNSU expressed hope that the ongoing judicial proceedings would reinforce the principles of accountability, transparency and the rule of law in public recruitment.
The union reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of students, job seekers and unemployed youth, while calling on all stakeholders to support a recruitment system that is fair, credible, transparent and accessible to all.
