Colleges and schools across Nagaland organise youth parliament, freshers' day, science exhibitions, and literary events.

DIMAPUR — Multiple educational institutions in Chümoukedima, Kohima, and Shamator organised debates, a freshers’ day programme, a literary competition-cum-investiture ceremony, and a science exhibition during the past week.
Norman Putsure College: Norman Putsure College, Chümoukedima, hosted the Young Indians Parliament "THALIR" on the theme "Tourism-led economic development" on June 19.
The full-day event, conducted across two sessions, saw the participation of 61 students representing six schools: Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Hebron Higher Secondary School, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Charis High Academy, North Town Higher Secondary School, and Pilgrim Higher Secondary School.
According to an update, following intense rounds of debate and rebuttals, the 15 best debaters were selected on merit. These students will represent the region at the upcoming Northeast Young Indians Parliament, where they will compete with peers from across the Northeast on state and regional policy issues.
Don Bosco College: Don Bosco College, Kohima, hosted its 12th freshers' day and welcomed the new batch of students on Saturday. Dr. Alice K Vizo, Director of Postal Services for Nagaland, attended the occasion as the special invitee.
In her address, Dr. Vizo urged the students to embrace college life with purpose, discipline, and hope, reminding them that education is not just about degrees but about building character, resilience, and service to society.
She highlighted time management, digital responsibility, and the need to stay connected to one's roots while adapting to a changing world.
N Bin Yemjong and Kesho Kent were crowned Mr. Fresher 2026 and Ms. Fresher 2026, respectively.

St. Xavier Higher Secondary School: St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator, organised a literary competition-cum-investiture ceremony of the Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) on June 19.
The occasion was attended by Col. GP Singh, Commandant of 32 Assam Rifles, Shamator, as the chief guest.
In his address, the chief guest inspired the students to nurture ambitious goals and pursue them with determination, discipline, and perseverance.
Stressing the importance of hard work and character formation, he encouraged the young learners to strive for excellence in all aspects of life.
Charis High Academy: Charis High Academy, Chümoukedima, held its annual Science Exhibition at the school premises on Saturday on the theme "Shaping tomorrow with science and technology".
The exhibition drew a panel of guest judges featuring Dr. Debarun Dhar Purkayastha, Associate Professor of Physics at the National Institute of Technology Nagaland, and Bendangtoshi Longchar, Technical Associate & Supervisor at NAGABOTS, Chümoukedima Branch.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Purkayastha lauded the participating students for their creativity and inquisitive nature, stating that the seeds of great scientific breakthroughs are always sown in the classrooms of young innovators who dare to look at the world differently.
School Administrator Chanmayo J Aier commended the high calibre of innovative ideas presented, noting the hard work, research, and dedication that went into each project. She encouraged the student community to bridge the gap between contemporary science and heritage, urging them to look closely at improving Naga traditional practices through the lens of modern science.
The competition was contested across three distinct age categories.
