Mokokchung teacher shortage: Ao bodies give govt. 2026 deadline

Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and AKM warn of democratic action if teacher shortage and rationalisation issues in Mokokchung remain unaddressed

MOKOKCHUNG — The Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have acknowledged the School Education department’s response to their joint ultimatum seeking immediate rationalisation and recruitment of teachers, including subject teachers, in Mokokchung district.

The three apex bodies, however, have given the department until the end of the 2026 academic year to take concrete and effective action on the issues raised.

In a letter addressed to the Under Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, School Education Department, Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong, Watsu Mungdang president Tianaro and AKM president Lanulemba Longchar appreciated the department’s assurance that necessary steps for teacher rationalisation and recruitment were already under process.

They maintained, however, that the shortage and uneven distribution of teachers, particularly subject teachers, continue to adversely affect students across Mokokchung district.

Ao Senden gives Nagaland government 30 days to act on IMDH demands

Referring to the department’s letter dated September 2026, the three organisations said they would wait until the end of the 2026 academic year for the government to implement concrete measures, citing the larger academic interest of students.

They expressed hope that the government and the School Education department would use the period to ensure equitable distribution and adequate recruitment of teachers, including subject teachers, in the district.
