DIMAPUR — The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has raised concern over the recent transfer and posting of teachers via the directorate of School Education’s rationalisation notification issued on August 22.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the AKM maintained that while rationalisation, as a policy, is intended to optimise resources and improve learning outcomes, the present exercise has instead been reduced to favouritism and preferential treatment.
It alleged that transfers carried out in the middle of the academic session have disrupted the continuity of education, with schools already facing teacher shortages being further affected. At the same time, institutions with excess teachers have been overlooked.

“This arbitrary approach clearly undermines the quality of education, particularly in rural areas, where students are already at a disadvantage,” the AKM stated.
Accordingly, it directed all government schools in Mokokchung district not to issue release orders for teachers in understaffed schools and to not accept joining reports of teachers posted to schools where teachers are in excess.
Presenting data to highlight discrepancies, the AKM cited several schools in Mokokchung district that have suffered from the reshuffle, including GPS Nokon, where the number of teachers dropped from seven to four, and GMS Yimjenkimong, which saw a reduction from eight to six teachers.
