MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has taken strict action against a pork stall owner in Alongmen Ward for allegedly manipulating a weighing scale to short-change customers on Friday.
According to MMC Chairperson Imkongchuba, a complaint was lodged on February 19 regarding the incident.
A customer had purchased 10 kilograms of pork from a stall holding Trade Permit No. 1864. However, when the meat was re-weighed at another scale, it was found to be only 8.900 kilograms — short by more than 1 kilogram, it stated.
Following the complaint, MMC officials promptly inspected the stall, apprehended the shop owner, and brought the matter to the MMC office for inquiry.

After investigation, the Council imposed a penalty by forfeiting the vendor's security deposit of INR 10,000 as a first and final warning.
The MMC stated its commitment to protect public trust and consumer rights and warned it will take such violations very seriously.
MMC further strictly directed all traders and business establishments under its jurisdiction to ensure that weighing instruments are accurate and free from tampering. Any future violations will attract stringent action under relevant rules and regulations, it warned.
The MMC also urged citizens to report any irregularities to the MMC office to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in local markets.
