Bashangmongba Chang inaugurated the new SP Office in Tuensang, stressing stronger police infrastructure, professionalism, technology readiness and community cooperation.
DIMAPUR — Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering P Bashangmongba Chang inaugurated the new Superintendent of Police (SP) Office in Tuensang on August 28.
Speaking at the inauguration function, Chang said the occasion was significant for the people of Tuensang as it marked not only the inauguration of a government building but also the strengthening of an important institution entrusted with maintaining peace, security and law and order, as well as ensuring the safety of the people, a DIPR report stated.
The minister noted that the Police Department had been serving the people of the district with dedication and commitment since its inception, often working under challenging circumstances.
In this context, he said the construction of a modern and well-equipped office building was a long-awaited and welcome development for the district.
Chang said the new building symbolised the growth and professionalism of the police institution and reflected a renewed commitment to public service.
The facility, he added, would provide a better working environment for police personnel and enable them to discharge their responsibilities more efficiently.
Highlighting the emerging challenges of modern policing, Chang said crime was no longer confined to the physical world.

With rapid advancements in technology, cybercrime, online fraud and other technology-enabled offences had become growing concerns.
He stressed the need for the police force to continuously upgrade its skills, embrace new technologies and remain prepared to address the changing needs and challenges of society.
The minister also appreciated Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton for their continued concern and commitment towards strengthening police infrastructure across the state and improving public service delivery.
Observing that police officers were often the first point of contact for citizens during times of difficulty, Chang urged the department to remain professional in the discharge of its duties, firm in maintaining law and order and committed to preserving peace and security.
Highlighting Tuensang’s rich social and cultural heritage and its diverse communities, the minister said maintaining peace and harmony in the district was a collective responsibility.
He stressed that the Police Department, civil administration, traditional institutions, community leaders, civil society organisations and the public must work together to preserve peace, security and communal harmony.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Akash Sinha, SDPO Tuensang.
A technical report was presented by Chobenthung Ezung, SDO, Police Engineering Project, Tuensang.
The programme also featured speeches by Pakhiu Khaim, vice president of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), and R Vikram Ezung, DIG, NAP Range.
