DIMAPUR — A consultative meeting of the Ward Waste Management Committee (WMC) was held under the chairpersonship of Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of Longleng town Thungchanbemo Tungoe on Thursday.
The meeting was convened to discuss sanitation issues and deliberate on the early implementation and activation of sanitation services across all commercial and residential areas in Longleng town, according to a DIPR report.
The chairperson briefed the house regarding various public utility services and the activation of sanitation services through door-to-door collection of waste. He also appraised the gathering on the strict implementation of the new Solid Waste Management Rules 2026.
Following thorough discussion and deliberation, the house adopted several points for immediate execution.
Door-to-door collection of segregated waste will be implemented with immediate effect in all wards under Longleng town from 5 am to 9 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The collection vehicles will maintain a minimum hold of 20 minutes at each ward.

The monthly user fee for each household has been fixed at INR 50, out of which INR 10 per household will be reserved for WMC operations. The committee is directed to collect the amount, deposit it in the bank, and submit the payment acknowledgement receipt or challan to the office, for which a QR code will be provided. Alternatively, the collected user fee can be handed over in cash at the office of the administrator of the Longleng Town Council.
The WMC will identify waste pick-up points as well as the number of households, and submit these details to the office. The committee will also construct elevated platforms for secondary waste storage depots, subject to the availability of space.
All households under Longleng town have been advised to maintain dual-bin segregation. It was reiterated that the WMC and the Longleng Town Council will impose penalties as per the new Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 for unethical littering of waste, including the burning of waste products and the disposal of biodegradable waste such as grass, mud, or animal waste at secondary storage depots.
The ULB will purchase segregated plastic waste at INR 10 per kilogram. In case of non-payment of the user fee, the ward authorities and the department concerned will refrain from issuing essential documents and public distribution system benefits to defaulting households.
Furthermore, a complaint redressal cell will operate with immediate effect at the administrator's office, and the WMC will be intimated in the event of vehicle breakdowns or service disruptions.
