DIMAPUR — The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meetings for Longleng and Kiphire were held to discuss district developmental activities and strategies.
Longleng: The Longleng DPDB meeting was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Chairman of DPDB Longleng, A Pongshi Phom.
According to a DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Longleng, W Manpai Phom, stated on the occasion that the monthly meeting provides the right opportunity for such deliberations and added that issues raised could be forwarded to the government for further necessary action.
The proposed agenda for the upgrade of the Officer-in-Charge Police Station Tamlu to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Tamlu was deliberated and recommended to the concerned department.
The proposal for the construction of an all-weather road from Yimha Junction to Brua Namsang to the foothill road Shetap village via Apoiji was submitted by the Tamlu Public Forum. The Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Tamlu, Mopling N Phom, highlighted the matter to the house, which agreed to forward the matter to the government.
MLA Pongshi proposed implementing the DPDB meritorious award for High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) exam toppers and subject toppers from both private and government schools starting this year.

He suggested carrying out a wide plantation drive for a sustainable environment during World Environment Day 2026. The house agreed to launch a plantation drive in Longleng town beginning the first week of June, focusing on ornamental trees.
The DC reminded all heads of departments to remain posted at their respective stations and ensure regular attendance and diligent functioning of the staff. He stated that departments found inactive or showing inadequate performance would be viewed seriously and reported to the higher authority.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Power, Longleng, Moiching Shembu, presented a sensitisation on smart metering installation through a PowerPoint presentation.
The District Soil and Conservation Officer of Longleng, P Angming Konyak, presented the departmental activities, while District Economics and Statistics Officer, Nyushotho Nyuthe, informed the house about the launching of digital registration of Aadhaar for children between zero and five years.
The Medical department was entrusted to present its activities in the next meeting.
Kiphire: The DPDB meeting of Kiphire was held on May 15 at the DC’s conference hall under the chairmanship of DC and Vice Chairman of DPDB Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer.
EAC Kiphire, Takatemjen Pongen, highlighted the performance of the students in the recent HSLC examination 2026 from the Kiphire district. On behalf of the DPDB, he conducted a felicitation ceremony for the district topper, Lidila S Sangtam of Agape Higher Secondary School, Kiphire, and presented her with a cash award and a certificate.
The proposal for a grant-in-aid to BC Olive School was discussed and forwarded to the concerned department for further action.
Speaking on the national information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign in the aspirational district, Pongen informed the house about the upcoming nationwide campaign for mass awareness.
He informed that the line departments, offices, and agencies, including district administration, Forest, Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Power, Public Health Engineering Department, Public Works, District Land Records and Survey Office, Medical, Education, Social Welfare, and Rural Development, will be divided into five clusters for the campaign.
The campaign will run from May 18 to May 25, and will be coordinated by the district informatics officer. The DC directed all concerned departments to submit timely reports to ensure smooth execution.
The proposal for the correction of the village name from "Pungren" to "Pongren" was also discussed and forwarded to the government for necessary implementation.
PowerPoint presentations were made by the District Industries Centre and the Social Welfare department. The DC directed the district sports officer and the Education department to present their departmental activities in the next meeting.
