DIMAPUR — The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Longleng, Alongdhimen Jamir, has issued a strict prohibition against the unlawful dumping of animal carcasses, including pigs and other animals, at the Longleng Town Council (LTC) municipal dumping site and other undesignated open spaces within the town’s municipal limits.
According to a DIPR report, the ADC has received reports of unlawful dumping of animal carcasses at the dumping site, which is leading to significant public health hazards and environmental pollution.
It said that improper disposal of waste, particularly animal carcasses, poses serious environmental and health risks. Such practices can contaminate surrounding areas, promote the spread of diseases, and contribute to other public health concerns.

In accordance with the guidelines set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), animal carcasses must be disposed of using scientifically approved methods, such as incineration or deep burial, to minimise health risks and prevent environmental damage.
It was mentioned that the Environment Protection Act provides a legal framework for preventing pollution and promoting sustainable environmental practices, whereas under the Solid Waste Management Rules issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), proper disposal of all waste, including animal carcasses, is mandated.
These rules categorise such waste as "hazardous waste" or "bio-medical waste", depending on the circumstances, and require proper segregation, treatment, and disposal.
It said that any violation of this order will result in legal penalties as per the applicable provisions of the law.
