DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) has renewed its warning to the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), or ULFA (I), demanding an immediate halt to the group’s activities within Konyak jurisdiction.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the apex tribal body expressed concern over the continued presence of ULFA (I) operatives in the region despite a public appeal and cautionary note issued as early as April 27, 2021.
The earlier statement had warned the outfit against using Mon district as a strategic hideout for conducting abductions and extortion activities across the border in Assam.
Calling the continued disregard for its warnings “unacceptable,” the KU declared that it would no longer remain a “mute spectator” to such activities.
It also issued a warning to all individuals and groups involved in anti-social or disruptive activities to cease immediately, stating that the union will not be held responsible for any consequences resulting from action taken against such elements.

In a separate appeal, the KU urged Indian security forces to exercise restraint and avoid harassing innocent civilians or daily wage earners under suspicion of links to “underground groups.”
It expressed concern over instances where innocent citizens, wrongfully accused, have had to sell off ancestral lands, homes, and fields to seek bail and legal redress.
It appealed to authorities to ensure proper verification before invoking harsh legal provisions.
