KVK Dimapur launches a 200-hour vermicomposting training programme to equip rural youth with skills in organic waste management, entrepreneurship and sustainable income generation.

DIMAPUR — A 200-hour skill training programme on “Farm Waste to Income: Vermicomposting Production for Sustainable Livelihood of Rural Youths” was inaugurated at the KVK Dimapur conference hall on Monday, with the aim of equipping rural youths with practical and technical skills in vermicomposting and entrepreneurship.
According to a press release from KVK Dimapur, the programme seeks to promote vermicomposting as a potential income-generating enterprise while enabling participants to convert farm and organic waste into a valuable resource.
The training will cover identification and selection of suitable earthworm species, different methods of vermicomposting, preparation of vermicompost beds, utilisation of various types of organic waste, quality parameters of vermicompost, vermiwash preparation, and establishment of vermicomposting units.
The programme will also focus on practical applications, including the use of vermicompost in kitchen gardening, demonstrations on vermicompost application, entrepreneurship development, business opportunities in vermicomposting, and integrated mushroom and vermicompost production for sustainable income.

Addressing the participants as chief guest, Dr. RL Raut, Director of the Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema, highlighted the importance of skill-oriented agricultural training in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
He encouraged the participants to make effective use of the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), followed by an introduction to the training activities by Gulshan Kumar, SMS (Horticulture).
The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Marneni Divya Sree, SMS (Agricultural Extension), ICAR-KVK Dimapur.
The training is expected to equip rural youths with technical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills to establish vermicomposting enterprises and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities.
