Assam Rifles distributed sports items, held a volleyball tournament, and restored a military memorial in Nagaland.

DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles conducted various community and sports-related activities in Kiphire and Phek districts, including distributing sports items, organising a volleyball tournament, and restoring a military memorial.
Assam Rifles distributed sports items to the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) in Kiphire on Monday to support an upcoming football match being organised as part of the Mongmong Festival.
According to an update, the sports items were handed over to representatives of the USSC in the presence of local players and members of the student community. The initiative aimed to encourage young people to actively participate in sports to foster discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles organised a volleyball tournament at Mimi village in the Kiphire district on Monday under the theme “United by sport, stronger together".

A total of six teams from across the Mimi Circle, including the Mimi COB team, participated in the tournament.
In Phek district, the Assam Rifles restored a memorial dedicated to the fallen heroes of the 2nd Maratha Light Infantry to preserve military heritage and honour the legacy of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice.
The memorial commemorates 12 brave personnel of the 2nd Maratha Light Infantry, including Captain Eric James Tucker, AC, who made the supreme sacrifice during operations in the area in 1956-57.
The restoration work included the construction of a new memorial stone, a protective shed, and the painting of the memorial premises.
Upon completion of the restoration, a wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the memorial with full military honours to pay tribute to the 12 personnel.
