Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, celebrates World Ozone Day with a call for global action.

DIMAPUR — Science Club and Nature’s Club of Kohima Science College Jotsoma (KSCJ) have jointly celebrated World Ozone Day on Tuesday on the theme “From Science to global action.”
An update from the college stated that the welcome address was delivered by S Joshua, secretary of Science Club, wherein he gave a brief overview of the historical background behind the ozone layer and World Ozone Day. He stressed on the ever increasing need to be vigilant about the damage being done to the layer and the ways to preserve it.
A short promotional video made by Nature’s Club was also screened.

In his keynote address, Shevito Theyo, KSCJ Green Initiative Ambassador, expressed delight at the number of people who turned out for the programme, stating that the gathering was not just a reminder of the scientific achievements but also to renew the determination to protect the ozone layer.
He stressed on the need to start actions in protecting the ozone layer immediately and effectively.
“Science is not enough. We need people, we need believers to make a change,” Theyo said.
He also focused on was the need to stay updated with all the right information and be wary of the abundance of fake news propagated on the internet.
“We need to stay informed. Choose ozone friendly products, avoid unnecessary ones,” Theyo added and criticised the problems of consumerism, capitalism and over production of the modern world.
He encouraged everyone to use ozone safe products, celebrate and to develop awareness of the ozone layer. He concluded by urging the participants to set an example for generations to come.
