DIMAPUR — The Department of Geography, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma (KSCJ), conducted a national workshop on “Geospatial technologies and analytical tools in modern survey and disaster management” on October 14 and 15.
According to an update, the workshop was organised in collaboration with and funded by the Nagaland Science Mission (NSM), Department of Science and Technology, Kohima, and IQAC, KSCJ.
A key highlight of the programme was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between KSCJ and Accelcraft Institute of Geoinformatics Technology, Guwahati. The MoU aims to facilitate internships under the current NEP programme and pave the way for future collaborations between the two institutions.
Kekuneil Ltu, deputy mission director, Nagaland Science Mission and NASTEC, Department of Science and Technology, Nagaland, stated that the event marked a major milestone not only for the college but also for the state, as it would enable real-time data analysis and provide a clearer picture for future policy formulation.

He expressed hope that the programme would serve as a roadmap for both the state and academia at the college.
The workshop recorded the participation of 110 attendees from various departments and focused on modern surveying techniques, remote sensing and GIS applications in natural resource management, landslide risk management, and resilience building.
The second day of the event emphasised hands-on learning through practical sessions using SPSS and a session on geospatial technology in environmental studies.
Resource experts included Mina Singha (Accelcraft, Guwahati), Thsope Medo (NASTEC, DST Nagaland), Dr. Sana Rafi (HNBGU, SRT Campus, Tehri), Prof. Amod Sharma (NU SASRD, Medziphema), and Dr. Shukla Acharjee (DU, Assam).
The event featured both offline and online sessions discussing cutting-edge technologies, with the objective of shaping the state’s scientific direction through future research and collaborations.
