DIMAPUR — Kohima and Mokokchung districts are gearing up for National Immunisation Day on June 28, with authorities stepping up preparations for the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) campaign.
In Kohima, a District Task Force (DTF) meeting was held with Deputy Commissioner (DC) B Henok Buchem at his office chamber on Wednesday.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting deliberated on several key public health issues, including biomedical waste management, fire safety compliance in health facilities, disaster preparedness, maternal and neonatal health, and immunisation activities.
During the discussion, concerns were raised regarding the disposal of biomedical waste in Kohima. The DC stressed the need for a uniform and sustainable waste management strategy across all health facilities and directed the chief medical officer (CMO) and medical superintendent (MS) to formulate a concrete action plan.
He noted that accountability for compliance with waste management regulations has become stricter following directives from the Supreme Court.
He also informed that the solid waste management at Lerie will soon be activated again.
Health officials highlighted gaps in fire safety infrastructure and disaster management training, particularly in district health facilities and Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima, as well as water supply, power backup, and equipment.

On National Immunisation Day, District Programme Officer for RMNCAH+N Kohima Dr. Khrielhoukho Nakhro informed that the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation programme will be conducted across Kohima district on June 28 from 7 am to 3 pm. The DC directed all sub-divisions and concerned departments to extend necessary support to ensure successful implementation of the campaign.
Earlier, Dr. Avonu from the Paediatric Unit of Naga Hospital Authority presented a case review on child death, and District Operational Manager Kohima Dr. Imna spoke on quality assurance.
Meanwhile, the CMO of Mokokchung has announced that the National Immunisation Day for children aged zero to five years is scheduled for June 28.
The CMO has issued an appeal to all parents, guardians, and adults to ensure that every eligible child in this age group receives two drops of the polio vaccine. The immunisation drive will take place at the nearest Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation booths set up across the district.
For queries, clarifications, or further information, citizens have been advised to contact their nearest health centre. Alternatively, the public can reach out directly via the official telephone numbers: the CMO at 9436006387 and the district immunisation officer at 9436607252.
