DIMAPUR — The Executive Engineer, Electrical Division, Kohima, has informed all electricity consumers under the division that an extensive disconnection drive against defaulting consumers for non-payment of electricity bills, including government offices and SPM villages, as well as illegal and unauthorised power connections, has commenced.
All categories of consumers in both urban and rural areas under the Kohima Electrical Division have been requested to clear their outstanding electricity bills at the earliest to avoid disconnection, the EE Electrical Division, Kohima stated in a press release.
The department has also warned the public against illegal and unauthorised use of electricity, including hooking, tampering with energy meters, and bypassing meters.
Such activities constitute serious offences under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, and may attract penalties in the form of fines, imprisonment, or both, it stated. Consumers have been urged to refrain from engaging in such practices.

Consumers facing discrepancies or grievances related to their electricity bills have been advised to visit the office of their respective SDO (Electrical) for clarification, correction, and rectification.
For convenience, all electricity consumers, including those using pre-paid meters, have been encouraged to utilise the department's online portal, https://dopn.gov.in, for bill payments and recharge services.
The department further stated that unregulated consumption of electricity has led to frequent damage to transformers.
Consumers have been advised to install smart meters to promote judicious use of electricity, reduce stress on power infrastructure, and prevent damage to transformers and distribution lines.
