KOHIMA — The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has lifted restrictions on the supply of commercial LPG that were imposed amid the West Asia crisis to safeguard domestic cooking gas availability.
In a communication to all chief secretaries of states and Union territories, the ministry said all sectoral restrictions on the supply of non-domestic (commercial) packed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have been withdrawn, restoring supplies to pre-crisis levels.
The restrictions had been introduced after commercial LPG supplies were curtailed to ensure uninterrupted availability of domestic LPG for household consumers.
The ministry also relaxed restrictions on bulk LPG supplies, allowing supplies to be restored to 50% of pre-crisis consumption levels.

It directed Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to continue maintaining a unified database of commercial and industrial consumers across all three OMCs.
The ministry further stated that commercial and bulk consumers who have shifted to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) will remain on PNG. Consumers who have access to PNG and are in the process of switching to local PNG networks will also be permanently transitioned to the fuel.
OMCs have been instructed to ensure that the transition to PNG continues in coordination with City Gas Distribution entities.
