Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem has approved the list of Village Council Members for 55 villages.

DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Kohima B Henok Buchem has notified the approved list of village council members for 55 villages under the Kohima district for the 2026-2031 tenure with immediate effect.
According to the notification, the list was approved in exercise of the powers conferred under the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978, as amended.
The 55 approved villages are Chedema, Chedema Model, Phekerkriema, Phekerkriema Basa, Ziezou, Zhadima, Tsiesema, Tsiese Basa, Nerhe Phezha, Nerhema, Chiechama, Nachama, Tsabozou, Dzüdza, Jotsoma, Mezoma, Kiruphema Basa, Sechu Zubza, Phesama, Khonoma, Dzulekema, Sechüma, Kiruphema Bawe, Peducha, Mengujuma, Thekrejuma, Mezo Basa, Khonoma Basa, Kigwema, Pfuchama, Mima, Kezoma, Kezo Basa, Sakhabama, Jakhama, Viswema, Kidima, Botsa, Dihoma, Kijumetuoma, Kijumetuoma Basa, Mitelephe, Tsiemekhuma Bawe, Tsiemekhuma Basa, Seiyhama, Seiyha Phesa, Gariphema, Gariphe Basa, Tuophema, Tuophe Phezou, Teichuma, Khuzama, Meriema, Rusoma, and Thizama.

Under the provision of Section 7, Sub-Section 1 of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978, as amended, the approved village councils are directed to elect or select a member of the village council as chairman and submit the name through the respective Area Administrative Offices within a period of 30 days for appointment.
Further, as provided under Section 8 of the act, as amended, the approved village councils are directed to select and appoint a secretary, who may or may not be a member of the village council. If the secretary is not a member of the council, they shall have no voting rights.
