Nagaland Health department clarifies the scope and enforcement of the tobacco food ban effective till June 2027.

DIMAPUR — In a bid to clear up confusions surrounding its latest public health crackdown, the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare has issued a clarification on the enforcement and scope of its ban on food products containing tobacco or nicotine.
According to a DIPR update on Wednesday, the prohibition on manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution, and sale of food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients went into immediate effect on June 2, 2026, and will remain strictly enforced for a full year until June 1, 2027.
It further clarified that the ban specifically applies to food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients.
The department also stated that Food Safety Officials will be responsible for enforcing the prohibition within their respective jurisdictions in coordination with the district administration and police authorities.
