Kiphire administration urges restraint amid Yimkhiung-Tikhir tensions, warning against provocation and retaliation after reported violence, a death and arson
DIMAPUR — With tensions simmering between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities following violence in parts of Kiphire district, the district administration has urged residents to exercise restraint and warned against actions that could trigger further confrontation.
In a public advisory issued on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer appealed to community organisations, village authorities and individuals to refrain from provocative statements, intimidation and the circulation of unverified information.
The advisory comes in the wake of reported violence in Zaonger, Pokphur and Longtsunger, where one person was reportedly killed and houses were torched.

The administration asked residents to comply with prohibitory restrictions already in force and cooperate with the police and civil authorities. Village councils, gaon burahs, tribal organisations and community leaders were also urged to discourage retaliatory action and help resolve differences through dialogue.
The deputy commissioner said the administration was monitoring the situation in coordination with the police and other authorities. Violations of the applicable orders, or acts prejudicial to public peace and security, would invite action under the law, the advisory stated.
It appealed to all communities to uphold mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, stressing that cooperation was essential to prevent further violence.
