Kiphire administration imposes prohibitory restrictions amid reported violence between Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities to prevent escalation and maintain peace
DIMAPUR — The Kiphire district administration has imposed prohibitory restrictions across parts of the district amid tensions between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities, invoking concerns over a possible escalation and breach of peace.
In an order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the deputy commissioner of Kiphire prohibited assemblies of five or more people, the carrying of firearms and other weapons, and statements or activities likely to provoke hostility.
The restrictions cover Pungro sub-division, except Khongsa Block, including Kiusam Circle, and took effect immediately.
The order comes against the backdrop of reported violence between members of the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities, raising concerns over the fragile situation in the area. The restrictions are intended to prevent further escalation and maintain public order.
The administration has cautioned against activities that could aggravate tensions, with the prohibitions aimed at limiting gatherings and the spread of provocative statements.
