DIMAPUR — The Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) has announced that it will commence the second phase of its agitation from October 12 in the form of indefinite picketing at the offices of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Phek, Forest Range Office, Phek, and Forest Range Office, Pfutsero.
According to a statement issued by the CCYO on Thursday, the indefinite picketing will begin from 10 am on October 12.
The organisation said the movement is aimed at seeking “justice, accountability, transparency, and due respect” for the customary rights, traditions and institutions of the Chakhesang people. It appealed to participants and concerned citizens to maintain peace, discipline and dignity throughout the agitation.
The CCYO also appealed to the youths of Phek and Pfutsero towns to support and participate in the “democratic movement”, stating that the issues being raised concern not only the Chakhesang community but also the rights, dignity, customary practices and welfare of the people of Nagaland.

However, it said the non-cooperation movement against the Forest department, including its continued position of non-operation and enforcement of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 within the area, would continue until its “legitimate demands” are addressed and fulfilled.
Further, the CCYO said it remained committed to pursuing the matter peacefully, democratically and resolutely until its demands were fulfilled in toto, and appealed to all sections of society to remain united and uphold peace and public order during the movement.
