Kikruma Association Kohima celebrates its golden jubilee at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima

KOHIMA — The Kikruma Association Kohima (KAK) on Saturday celebrated its golden jubilee at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima.
Chairman of Kohima Village Council (KVC), Hielievio Solo, attended the event as the special guest. Addressing the programme, he extended greetings to KAK on reaching the milestone and acknowledged the association’s contribution to the growth of Kohima.
Highlighting that Kikruma and Kohima are two blessed villages, he said both have been gifted with vast land, fertile soil, and are located in geographically strategic places.
He said the friendship forged by the elders in the past, transcending all obstacles, is worth celebrating, and that the present generation should strengthen this friendship for posterity.

Solo also reminded that the friendship should be a blessing to other neighbouring villages and help unify Naga society.
He expressed concern that Naga society today is living in a time where human greed is overpowering the collective interest, driven by selfishness. In this regard, he stated that this trend must change to uphold age-old values and traditions.
Highlighting that the aspiration of the Naga people for self-determination was upheld in the past and remains relevant even today, he pointed out how the people of Kohima and Kikruma villages resisted colonial forces, resulting in armed resistance. As such, he said the two villages should continue to stand together for the Naga cause.
Solo also called for better understanding, love and cohesion, inter-marriage to build stronger human connections, and the continued upholding of age-old friendship, with its history recorded for posterity.
Furthermore, the KVC chairman suggested youth and cultural exchanges between Kohima and Kikruma villages to enhance understanding and pass on shared values, traditions and history. He also invoked God’s blessings for Kikruma village.

Former Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Thenucho Tunyi, delivered greetings and appreciated the pioneer citizens of Kikruma who first came to Kohima to settle. He also acknowledged the hospitality of Kohima village for being a good host.
He acknowledged guests from various villages for upholding friendship and brotherhood at all times. Tunyi implored Kikruma citizens to be mindful of their words and to remain truthful and honest to strengthen friendship. He urged government officials to work for the welfare of the downtrodden and deliver justice.
He stressed the need to remain committed to the Naga political cause and emphasised the need to look beyond government sector employment, stating that it is already saturated.
A brief history of KAK was presented by Kuhupoyo Puro, former chairman of the NPSC. The presidential address was delivered by Povezo Puro, who highlighted that more than 1,200 residents of Kikruma are currently residing in Kohima.
On the occasion, the eldest member of KAK, Kurethi Vero, released the golden jubilee souvenir. A choral piece was presented by the KAK jubilee choir, while a folk dance was performed by North Kikruma Youth. The programme was led by Vivolie Kezo, convenor of the organising committee.
Meanwhile, the nomination committee convenor Pukhuhu Kezo declared the new KAK team for the 2025–2027 tenure, which will be led by Potsutso Thira as president, Zhalie Puro as vice-president, and Veluta as general secretary, among others.
The programme was attended by friendship villages of Kikruma village from Chakhesang tribes, Angami and neighbouring Manipur state.
