Speaking as special guest, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang described the occasion as a meaningful celebration of values that form the foundation of a healthy and progressive society.
He said that the award was not merely a recognition but a reminder that lives lived with integrity and responsibility continue to inspire generations.
Good citizenship, he said, went far beyond legal identity or voting rights and was reflected in everyday conduct, honesty, respect for the law and concern for others.
In a diverse state like Nagaland, Chang said, good citizenship acts as the glue that binds people from different cultures and beliefs. He described the award recipients as shining examples of responsible citizenship, noting that their contributions in social service, education, environmental protection and peace-building often created lasting grassroots impact without seeking publicity.
In his address after receiving the award, Team Better Dimapur president Mhonjan Humtsoe termed the occasion a significant milestone for the group.
He said that the team had invested years of effort in beautifying the city, often facing criticism, but their perseverance had paid off.
Humtsoe said that the team’s work would not have been possible without strong family support. Clarifying misconceptions, he said the group received only INR 5,000 per month as support from a church and had never sought donations, relying instead on available resources.
He informed that the INR 4 lakh award amount received under the KCA would be utilised to further improve and beautify Dimapur, and called upon citizens to set aside criticism and work collectively for the city’s betterment.
Earlier, Abeni Lotha of Team Better Dimapur highlighted the group’s work and activities.
Since 2017, Team Better Dimapur has been actively involved in community service, including relief work, sports initiatives and medical camps.
However, the group is best known for its sustained efforts in beautifying Dimapur, transforming abandoned and neglected spaces into clean, green public areas through voluntary labour and personal resources.
From planting and maintaining flowerbeds to rebuilding damaged dividers and cleaning public spaces, the team’s quiet, consistent efforts, carried out without expectation of reward, were described as a true reflection of active citizenship.
