DIMAPUR — A day-long farmers' interaction-cum-training programme on "Care & maintenance of fruit trees and demonstration on pest & disease management in fruit trees" was held at Beisumpuikam under Peren district on September 23.
The programme was organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Fruits, Department of Horticulture, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema campus.
A total of 20 progressive fruit growers and Tribal Sub-Plan beneficiaries participated in the programme, according to an update.
Junior Horticulturist Dr. Alemla Imchen delivered a session with particular focus on scientific planting, care, and maintenance practices of fruit trees before and after harvest. The session covered orchard management practices, including mulching, girdling, manuring, whitewashing, pollinator management, drip irrigation, intercropping, harvesting, and orchard sanitation, supported by photographic illustrations and videos to facilitate practical understanding among the farmers.

Mokokchung: Agri, leadership training held for youth
Plant Pathologist Dr. Bendangsenla conducted a session on pest and disease management in fruit trees, focusing on important insect pests and diseases of litchi and mango. The session covered identification, symptoms, and management of insect pests and diseases. A practical demonstration on the use of eco-friendly chemicals was also conducted.
The farmers shared problems related to insect pests and diseases encountered in their orchards, which was followed by the distribution of minor farm tools and pesticides.
