DIMAPUR — The Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Nagaland State Branch, and the National Socialist Women's Organisation of Nagalim (NSWON) have condemned the rise in crimes against children, particularly child abuse and sexual assault, in Nagaland.
In a press statement, the IAP Nagaland State Branch expressed deep concern over recent statistics showing a rise in offences against children across the state.
It noted that a total of 52 cases of crimes against children were registered in the last 12 months, representing a 100 per cent increase from the 26 cases recorded in the preceding year.
The overall child crime rate has increased from 3.2 to 6.3 per lakh population, highlighting a growing threat to the safety and well-being of children.
Furthermore, 18 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act involving 19 child victims were reported, highlighting the need for stronger child protection measures.

Meanwhile, the NSWON expressed outrage over a sexual assault committed against a minor in Dimapur.
"As Nagas who have long professed Christian values, we will not tolerate predators hiding among us. Our organisation and the wider Naga community stand united in protecting our children and vulnerable members from sexual violence," the NSWON stated.
It condemned all crimes against women and children, calling on authorities to promptly investigate and prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law, without special considerations for background or status.
The NSWON extended its deepest sympathy and support to the victim and her family, pledging to work with community leaders, elders, and law enforcement to prevent such atrocities in the future.
