MOKOKCHUNG — Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days triggered multiple landslides along National Highway 702D (Mokokchung to Mariani Road), affecting the stretch between the 43 km and 49 km marks under Changki village jurisdiction in Mokokchung district on Saturday.
The Public Works Department (PWD) acted swiftly to clear the debris and restore traffic movement. However, a second landslide in the evening created further challenges.
According to Likok Yaden, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), PWD (NH) in charge of the Zero Point (Mokokchung) to Longtho section, around eight landslides were reported along the specified stretch early Saturday morning.

The department promptly deployed machinery and manpower, clearing the affected section by 10.30 am and reopening it for vehicular movement.
Later at around 8.45 pm, another landslide struck the same area, once again disrupting traffic. The PWD immediately mobilised excavators and personnel to clear the fresh debris. Yaden estimated that the operation would take at least an hour, with efforts ongoing to fully reopen the route.
Commuters have been advised to exercise caution when travelling along NH-702D, especially during ongoing heavy rainfall.
