KOHIMA — A free community medical camp in collaboration with the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Porterlane, Kohima, organised by Medoviu Martin Suohu, councillor of Ward-19, Kohima, was held on Thursday at the Panchayat Hall, Lower PR Hill.
Addressing the programme, Suohu acknowledged UPHC Porterlane for extending support to the ward through the collaboration. He also lauded the role and support of the Lower PR Hill Council in his initiatives.
Suohu said the medical camp was organised for residents of the five colonies under Ward-19, with special focus on children and the local community, noting that GPS Lower PR Hill is housed in the same building as the Panchayat Hall.
Highlighting the importance of education and healthcare, the councillor said the camp was aimed at benefiting both students and residents of the locality.
He also pointed out the absence of a government-run Urban Primary Health Centre in Ward-19 despite the presence of private hospitals in the area, adding that not all residents could afford private healthcare services.
Suohu informed that efforts were underway and necessary paperwork was being processed to establish a UPHC in the ward to ease the burden on residents. Until then, he sought continued support from UPHC Porterlane.

Speaking at the programme, Dr. Aomeren Longkumer, medical officer in-charge of UPHC Porterlane, acknowledged Suohu as the first person to approach the health centre for organising such a medical camp and appreciated his initiative.
He informed that the camp provided basic health screening for hypertension and diabetes, TB screening with X-ray, dental screening, basic oral first-aid services, free medical consultations and pharmacy services, all free of cost.
Dr. Longkumer stated that UPHC Porterlane is equipped with dental and laboratory facilities capable of conducting a wide range of tests.
He added that the centre focuses not only on curative care but also preventive and promotive healthcare, including surveillance of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
He urged the public to avail the services of the health centre, which remains open on all government working days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, teacher-in-charge of GPS Lower PR Hill, Vizalenuo Natso, acknowledged Suohu for donating two sets of computers and sports kits to the school.
She also highlighted the councillor’s various contributions during the previous academic year, including providing stationery items, examination boards and sponsoring prizes for sports and drawing competitions.
Natso said students were benefiting from the free health check-up and described Suohu as a true champion of children’s dreams and aspirations.
Chairman of PR Hill Panchayat, Peteroko Belho, also acknowledged the councillor for his dedicated service and sought continued support and prayers from residents for the councillor.
The programme was chaired by Rose Mary Jamir, while the invocation prayer was offered by Puhuno Belho.
