DIMAPUR — St. Joseph University, Salesian College of Higher Education, and MGM College marked National Engineer’s Day, biodiversity awareness, and an inter-departmental quiz competition, respectively.
St. Joseph University: St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, observed National Engineer’s Day on Monday at the university auditorium on the theme “Unleashing the power of engineers to advance the sustainable development goals”.
According to a press release, the event was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in collaboration with The Institution of Engineers (India).
Dr. A. Robert Xavier, registrar of St. Joseph University, speaking as the resource person, highlighted the role of engineers in nation-building through innovation and ethical practices.

Salesian College of Higher Education: On the same day, Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, hosted a talk and interaction with scientists from the Zoological Survey of India under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The team, led by Dr. Suresh Chandra, Dr. Santosh Kumar, and Dr. Kubendran, discussed biodiversity hotspots in India and the impact of climate change over the decades, with a focus on Nagaland.
Dr. Chandra highlighted the ten biodiversity divisions in India, emphasising the crucial centres for study in Northeast India, such as Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Shillong, Meghalaya. The talk aimed to address the impact of climate change on India's flora and fauna, with a particular focus on Nagaland.
It was mentioned that the team has been visiting various districts, including Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, and Dimapur, to gather valuable insights through the study of flora and fauna.

Dr. Kubendran shared details about the role of insects as life indicators and their significance in determining water quality. Meanwhile, Dr. Santosh Kumar spoke about the world of microbes, particularly those residing in water.
The previous day was dedicated to exploring the campus's diverse insect, plant, and microbial life. The key takeaways of the seminar were to understand the importance of biodiversity hotspots, to recognise the role of insects and microbes in environmental health, and to consider the effects of climate change on local ecosystems.
The meeting ended with a decision to enter into collaborative studies between the two institutes.
MGM College: The Department of History of MGM College organised an inter-departmental Quiz Quest on September 12.
The event, sponsored by Mahendra’s Institute, Dimapur, brought together 14 students from seven departments to compete in a series of rounds designed to test knowledge and quick-thinking skills, stated a press release.
The Economics Department team of L Annastacia Dangshawa and Diya Sangma secured the first position. The Commerce Department, represented by Tripti and Laksmi, claimed the second place, while the Political Science Department team of Angel Tamang and Rose Debbarma finished third.
