DIMAPUR — District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meetings were held in multiple districts across Nagaland, with discussions centring on development, resource utilisation, infrastructure shortages, and environmental conservation.
Chümoukedima: The monthly meeting of the DPDB Chümoukedima was held at the DC's conference hall on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and Chairman of the DPDB Zhaleo Rio.
According to a DIPR report, the board approved the registration of the Yimkhiung Baptist Borü Society, Naga United Village. In the case of KS Yimchunger Society, Vidima, the board directed the representatives to continue functioning and advised them to approach the board after three years, along with a no-objection certificate from the concerned tribal body.
The board deliberated on issues relating to sanitation, solid waste management, environmental conservation, traffic management, and census preparations.
Addressing the members, Advisor Rio directed the Chümoukedima Town Council to ensure regular clearance of waste and garbage and conduct awareness programmes on waste segregation. He also encouraged departments and institutions to provide dustbins in public places and undertake plantation drives, particularly around sports infrastructure and public facilities.
On traffic management, the advisor appreciated the efforts of the police department in enforcing speed limits along the National Highway to reduce accidents.

Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima Polan John highlighted the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the Census exercise. He informed the board that the revised Solid Waste Management Rules cover both urban and rural areas, providing for the segregation of waste into four categories.
Peren: The Peren DPDB meeting was held at the DC's conference hall on June 8 under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang.
According to a DIPR report, the board discussed the formation of an Officers' Club in the district to provide a common platform for officers from different departments and promote greater interaction among them.
On issues concerning Ntangki National Park, the board urged the Forest department to coordinate with the Director of Ntangki National Park and the DFO Peren, to ensure the proper functioning of the director's office at the Forest Camp in the park.
The meeting also deliberated on imposing a total ban on single-use plastics (SIPs) in the district. During the discussion, Zeliang highlighted the harmful effects of single-use plastics, stating that they take hundreds of years to decompose, clog waterways, endanger wildlife and release toxic microplastics into food and water sources, posing serious health risks.
Considering their adverse impact on the environment and public health, the board decided to ban single-use plastics in the district.
The house also resolved to constitute a committee headed by the deputy commissioner as the convener to oversee matters related to the proposed ban.
Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru suggested that town councils and ad hoc town councils under the Peren district should undertake awareness initiatives to educate the public on minimising the use of single-use plastics.
Earlier, the board reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting, including matters related to the adoption of Peren Government College and hospitals in the district.
Longleng: The Longleng DPDB meeting was held on Wednesday at the DPDB Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and Vice-Chairman of the DPDB W Manpai Phom.
Following a proposal by MLA and Chairman of the DPDB A Pongshi Phom for the presentation of meritorious awards to HSLC and HSSLC toppers, the board agreed to felicitate the students, along with deserving government officers, during the Independence Day celebration.
The deputy commissioner informed that a plantation drive will be carried out along the highway stretch starting from Alayung towards Longleng town with the involvement of all government departments and village council members on June 20.
Discussing power issues, SDO Power Moiching Shembu highlighted the requirement of a transformer and LT line for EAC Yachem, which has nearby offices like the CHC, Ayushman Hospital, and the EAC office. He stated that Toiching village, recognised in 2025, is the only recognised village yet to be electrified. He added that infrastructure in Longleng town is overloaded and requires serious augmentation.
The Chairman informed that the EE (Trans), Transmission Division, Mokokchung, will be invited to the next meeting to present a detailed status report. District Horticulture Officer Talimeren and the Medical department also presented updates on their respective activities.
Zunheboto: The monthly meeting of the Zunheboto DPDB was held at the DC's conference hall on June 9, chaired by Advisor for Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection and Chairman of the DPDB K Tokugha Sukhalu.
Sukhalu noted that Nagaland has one of the highest ratios of government employees relative to its population while state revenue remains limited and urged departments to work diligently to ensure the efficient utilisation of available resources.
To address the shortage of government quarters for officers in Zunheboto, the advisor informed that the General Administration Guest House under construction at North Point Colony will provide temporary accommodation.
Khehoshe H Yepthomi, President of the NPF Zunheboto Division, called for the construction of a Rural Marketing Shed to help local farmers market their produce.
The board approved and recommended the registration of the Taekwondo Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and the proposal to upgrade The Cedar School in Aghunato. It also discussed transferring unassigned public properties to the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC), formally handing over the Multi-Purpose Hall to the ZTC for a trial period of one year.
Kiphire: DPO and Member Secretary of the DPDB Kiphire, Koroto Ngullie, has informed that the Kiphire DPDB meeting has been scheduled for June 18. This is due to the proposed House Listing Operation (HLO) training programme scheduled from June 15 to the 17th.
