WOKHA — A joint search operation to recover the body of a youth who drowned in Doyang Reservoir, Wokha, was carried out on Sunday, with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) commencing work at around 10.20 am.
Rescue teams conducted systematic search operations, deploying two deep divers and adopting techniques such as the spiralling boat method.
However, repeated attempts failed to retrieve the body on the first day.

Speaking to media persons, Assistant Commandant of 12 NDRF, Itanagar, Phuleswar Lahon, expressed disappointment that the body could not be recovered despite a full day of search efforts.
He said that the uncertain location of the incident remained a major constraint, while cold water conditions forced the suspension of operations after 4 pm, as divers could not remain underwater for extended periods.
He also shared that the depth at the site, estimated at approximately 300 feet, posed a significant challenge to the search.

Although the divers thoroughly covered suspected locations indicated by eyewitnesses, the body could not be retrieved.
Lahon added that operations are scheduled to resume early on April 13.
He also informed that the NDRF has appealed to the district administration to deploy an underwater drone to assist in the ongoing search.
