Nagaland Police detected 644 Inner Line Permit defaulters in a post-poll drive across Assam border districts to ensure compliance and maintain law and order.

DIMAPUR — Nagaland Police have detected a total of 644 Inner Line Permit (ILP) defaulters across six districts bordering Assam during an intensified drive conducted on April 10 and 11.
The intensified ILP drives were carried out in the backdrop of the Assembly elections in neighbouring Assam and the by-election in Mokokchung.
The drive was also initiated to regulate the movement of people and ensure strict compliance with ILP regulations.
In an update, Nagaland Police stated that 436 ILP defaulters were detected out of 777 persons checked across six districts sharing a border with Assam on April 10.
In a similar drive on April 11, police detected 208 ILP defaulters out of 1,217 persons checked.

It stated that action has been taken against the defaulters as per the law, and the cases have been forwarded to the respective district administrations for necessary action.
It added that the intensified checking was undertaken as a post-poll preventive measure to regulate the illegal movement of non-indigenous persons and to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, district police units have been directed to continue regular ILP checks in coordination with the district administration to ensure full compliance with ILP provisions.
