A 26-year-old man drowns at Doyang Reservoir in Wokha; SDRF launches search, NDRF to join rescue operation Sunday.

WOKHA — A 26-year-old man drowned at the Doyang Reservoir on Saturday afternoon while rowing a canoe. The victim, identified as Yilobemo Kikon of Pangti village, reportedly drowned between 2 pm and 2.30 pm.
Sources said that the incident was witnessed by anglers fishing along the reservoir belt, though the exact cause of the mishap could not be ascertained. An update from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) stated that the witness was at a distance when the canoe suddenly capsized in the middle of the reservoir.
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police from the Doyang outpost were deployed at the site. The SDRF said that it received a distress call around 4 pm and moved to the reservoir. However, due to the late hour, search operations could not be initiated on Saturday.
The team said the search would begin at 6 am on Sunday with the NDRF expected to join the operation.
