Dimapur Government College and institutes across Nagaland hold academic and vocational programmes to enhance skills and promote higher education.

DIMAPUR — Educational institutions across Nagaland witnessed a series of academic and skill-development activities.
Dimapur Government College: The PM-USHA Monitoring Cell of Dimapur Government College organised a one-day workshop on “Preservation of fruits and vegetables” on Wednesday at the college auditorium.
According to an update, funded by the Ministry of Education under the PM-USHA initiative, the programme aimed to promote the vocationalisation of higher education.
Orenponi Humtsoe, proprietor of Hayo Foods, Burma Camp, Dimapur, served as the resource person and delivered an insightful presentation on traditional and modern methods of food preservation.
She emphasised the importance of preservation in reducing wastage, promoting sustainability, and fostering entrepreneurship. Participants learned practical techniques such as dehydration, pickling, and jam-making, along with the scientific principles behind extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables.

The workshop also encouraged participants to explore small-scale food processing as a vocational option.
International University Nagaland: The International University, Nagaland, Dimapur, and the North East Institute of Social Work & Research (NISWR), Chümoukedima, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote mutual cooperation in academics, research, and extension activities.
The agreement seeks to create opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers to engage in collaborative initiatives that contribute to Nagaland’s educational and socio-economic development.
The MoU was signed by Roopam Bachhil, registrar, and Zavise Rume, director, representing the International University, and by Fr. Anto and Fr. Khing, vice principal, representing NISWR, Chümoukedima.

Both institutions agreed to work together to promote academic programmes, student exchange initiatives, holistic growth, and community service. The signing took place in the presence of DK Shukla, vice chancellor, International University, Kohima.
Nagaland University: The School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, organised a two-day industrial visit to the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Kohima, from October 7 to 8.
On the first day, 29 final-year B.Tech students from the departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology participated in the visit, followed on the second day by 32 pre-final and final-year students from the departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Abhishek Misra, additional director and officer-in-charge, STPI Kohima, interacted with the students and highlighted various entrepreneurial opportunities available through STPI, encouraging them to generate ideas and develop solutions addressing social, educational, and other challenges.
The students also gained hands-on experience using laboratory equipment.
They further interacted with Meghna Priya, a consultant, who explained internship and job opportunities in different organisations. In his vote of thanks, Shanchamo Yanthan, in charge of placement and training, SET, expressed gratitude to Misra for hosting the students and to the pro-vice-chancellor and dean of NU-SET for facilitating the visit.
