DIMAPUR — The District Planning Office (DPO), Peren, was inaugurated on Monday by Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in-charge of Planning & Transformation and National Highways, TR Zeliang, who attended the programme as the special guest.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Zeliang described the opening of the office as a significant milestone in Peren's development journey and a step towards strengthening governance and public service delivery, according to a DIPR report.
He said the establishment of the District Planning Office was long overdue and underscored the importance of developing adequate administrative infrastructure in the extended model township.
He noted that developmental activities and infrastructure creation in the district had gained momentum in recent years, with roads, government buildings and other essential facilities gradually taking shape.
Expressing confidence in the role of the new office, Zeliang said it would be instrumental in planning, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating developmental programmes.

He stressed the need for effective planning and judicious utilisation of resources to ensure equitable development across the district.
The Deputy CM urged departments, engineers, contractors and implementing agencies to closely monitor projects and ensure strict adherence to approved Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), specifications, quality standards and timelines.
He also called upon government officials and staff posted in the district to make use of the residential quarters and facilities provided by the government, stating that their presence would contribute to the growth of the extended model township and the New DC Headquarters as a vibrant administrative centre.
Highlighting the vision behind the New DC Headquarters, Zeliang said the objective was not merely to construct government buildings but to develop a thriving township that would serve as a hub for administration and public services.
He appealed for the cooperation of all stakeholders in realising this vision and congratulated those involved in the completion of the office building.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, highlighted the role of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) in addressing developmental issues through coordinated efforts among various departments.
Referring to several development initiatives undertaken in the district, including the promotion of agricultural products under the “Green Peren” brand, Meru emphasised the need to strengthen economic activities, particularly in the agriculture and allied sectors.
He also called for enhanced biosecurity measures to mitigate the impact of African Swine Fever on farmers.
The DC said the New District Headquarters was being developed as a model district headquarters in accordance with its master plan and acknowledged Zeliang’s contribution towards infrastructure development in the district.
He further urged all departments to continue working together to accelerate Peren’s growth and wished the DPO and its staff success in effectively utilising the new office infrastructure.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Development Commissioner Peren, Heinswading, while Executive Engineer (Planning), Haulimchoba Chang, presented the technical report.
