DIMAPUR — The closing ceremony of the three-day Unity Mini Hornbill Festival-cum-pre-Christmas celebration took place at the DC's office complex in Peren on Saturday, with Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang as the special guest.
Addressing the attendees, the deputy CM thanked the deputy commissioner of Peren and DPDB members for organising the programme aimed at promoting unity in the district, a DIPR report stated.
Highlighting the significance of the festival, Zeliang said it reminds the people that Peren is “One District, One People, One Family.”
Zeliang clarified that the demand for a separate district for Jalukie Valley was discussed at DPDB, but the state cabinet decided that no new districts would be created, with no tribe getting two districts. He said creating a district isn't within his power and called allegations baseless and politically motivated.
